Style Bell Shares His Secret To Success- How He Went From The Foster Care System To Building A Multi-Million Dollar Business!
“The only thing that I see that is distinctly different about me is I’m not afraid to die on a treadmill. I will not be outworked, period. You might have more talent than me, you might be smarter than me, you might be sexier than me. But if we get on the treadmill together, there’s two things: You’re getting off first, or I’m going to die. It’s really that simple, right? – Will Smith

I wasn’t surprised when Style, which is his actual birth name, mentioned Will Smith’s famous Treadmill quote to me when we spoke on a sunny LA afternoon. The connection made perfect sense.
Not being afraid to die on the treadmill is not just a metaphor, it’s a way of life for Style. It means going above and beyond anyone’s negativity, judgments, or doubts even from yourself. Conquer your fears. Put in the work. Outwork the work. Styles has and is doing just that. He’s a prime example of beating the odds. From his humble beginnings as a child dealing with neglect and abuse in the foster care system to the passing of his beloved mother and aunt, financial woes, insecurities. He dealt with it all. And came out of it with grace, humility, and a desire to give back. He’s wiser and stronger because of it.
In short he never got off the treadmill of life. He didn’t give up. He kept running.
So to have it all culminate in Style defining success on his terms and helping others along the way by sharing his story is a testament that is motivating and truly inspiring.
When you meet Style he has the brightest smile, his presence is noticeable, you feel it instantly, it’s strong and inviting. He’s an open book; about his past, his future and doesn’t shy away from the hurt that he’s endured. Some could deem that as weak, oftentimes in the black community, men don’t share their trauma. It’s too painful to confront or they don’t want to be viewed as vulnerable. Style is the polar opposite, the vulnerability he shows and talks about, which he often does on his Instagram is his strength because it resonates with so many. It’s his narrative. That’s what makes it powerful.
Vibrating Higher
When he spoke to me about the passing of his mother, he experienced grieving, even anger at one point thinking about the pain of losing her. His mother’s battle with addiction was too strong for her to fight.
“I questioned her choices, I was upset.” Style shared. “Why would you choose the drinking, the drugs over your child?” Style ultimately found peace through forgiving his mother by teaching himself that the guilt, and sadness was making him vibrate in a lower frequency. It was profound to hear him say that and new because it touched a personal place for me in thinking of how we deal with losing a loved one. He chose, as he said to vibrate in a higher frequency by remembering the love he has for her and the fact that she’s in essence, around him all the time. Though not in the physical form but spiritually.
Style has always vibrated on higher frequency learning early on to channel his emotions, whether good or bad through motion and being active, using it as an outlet not realizing even then that fitness would develop his path and mindset.
“I used to sneak into YMCA as a little boy around eight or nine. They knew I was but they didn’t say anything. It was a safe space for me. They had snacks. I could play, exercise, and work on becoming stronger because I felt frail. I didn’t want to get hurt anymore, by anyone.”
Styles’ will to become stronger, both physical and mentally carried him through turbulent times when money was tight, having negative ninety dollars in a B of A account at one point. He even worked at Norwegian Cruise as a cleaner. He’s never been afraid or above putting in the work even when faced with racism in a corporate environment, it’s a reality that people of color deal with often.
Working his way up from cleaner to the restaurant manager, in his final contract, he was demoted to a waiter. He decided then that he had two choices, complain and give up or be the best waiter at Norwegian.

Giving 120 percent
It’s an ideal that he learned from Motivational speaker, hip hop preacher, Eric Thomas.
“When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, then you’ll be successful.” – Eric Thomas
Being demoted pushed Style to succeed in that situation and beyond. With that mindset, there’s nothing he couldn’t accomplish. You have to want it as bad as you want to breathe.
You don’t hear many people say that or even tap into that level of dedication but Style is different, instilling a belief in himself that you have to perform at your optimal best at whatever you do in order to achieve your level of greatest. Don’t compare yourself to what others are doing, you have to be the best for you, the results speak for themselves.
“Say for example you’re the maid at the hotel, and cleaning rooms. You can just clean the room, and that’s it. But if you take time to clean the room, and make the towel swan decoration for the bed, leave a note thanking the guest. That’s giving 120% percent. You’re going above and beyond. They remember that.”
“It doesn’t matter if you work at the cafe, are the Fed Ex-Driver. Give it your best. It’s that 120% percent mentality that takes you from here to the top”
Success Style’s Way
I asked Style what advice would he give to his younger self knowing what he knows now. He shared that he wouldn’t tell him anything because he’d want him to experience those lows which help cultivate him into the man he is today. A man with a purpose that has compassion for others and a will to succeed.
He added, “I’d also tell him to trust the process. I always felt that I was supposed to be somebody, even though the evidence of my life didn’t represent that. But I always knew there was more for me in life.”
Style currently lives in Los Angeles as a successful entrepreneur and dog dad to his beautiful Siberian Husky Shiloh.
