It’s a friendship and business partnership that’s real, honest and just cool. The founders of Deviant La Vie, Brittany Duet and her partner Murph have within a very short span of time, only 19 months to be exact since they debuted their brand in 2017, has unapologetically taken sexiness in form the lingerie, with a little BSDM thrown in, and turned it into high fashion. It’s been a whirlwind two weeks for the designer duo. With the release of the Lion King on July 17th accompanied by the stunning video “Spirit” by Beyonce off the titled soundtrack. The ranges of looks, from Haute Couture to custom, all vibrant and colorful, matched the naturalist background set in Africa. The intricate knitting, detail, and color grabs your attention and comes from the creative mind of Brittany Duet.
Brittany is bold, her smile, engaging with a hint of sass, it draws you in. She laughs from the heart but is all business and has a clear focus of her brand and where she wants to go. According to Brittany there were so many looks for Beyonce, she didn’t know if they’d be chosen. They sent the final fit to Beyonce’s team and kept doing their thing, happy to be apart of the moment. So when the Spirit video dropped, featuring Deviant La Vie, her emotions poured out in gratitude and surprisement on her instagram, after her and partner Murph worked non stop to bring the custom design she visualized to life.
“I’m getting my nails done. And my friends and family are blowing my phone up!” Brittany recalls exuberant. “I ran out the nail salon, totally forgot about my nails when I heard about it! I called Murph, it was crazy. I had a lot of love around me too when I got the news, which was great”.
No formal training, just raw talent that set her on a course to design. It’s her family background where she learn the art of knitting.
“My grandmother knitted, she’d make these elaborate blankets and crochet so that’s where I think it came from, it’s always been there.”
Murph, poised and cerebral, is the co-founder of Deviant La Vie. Their sisterhood/friendship goes back to Brittany’s days as a Wildin’ Out Girl with Nick Cannon. During that time Brittany wanted to switch gears in her career and was looking for direction, a chance meeting with Murph, then losing contact only to reconnect through a mutual friend changed the course of their lives.

Murph’s swag is apparent as soon as you meet her. She’s cool, thoughtful, laid-back but doesn’t take herself too seriously, her unassuming spirit is refreshing. Naturally gifted in fashion design, she’s currently creating a line named after her daughter Alani all while designing and creating for Deviant, she’s able to balance her busy schedule with ease.
“I’m a libra, so you know, I’m able to balance and multi-task simultaneously, some people wonder how I’m able to do it but I just do.” She says with a smile. Murph is also the balance to Brittany’s spontaneous fun energy. She describes herself as behind the scenes but her role is pivotal in shaping and defining Deviant’s aesthetic which was inspired by some lively BSDM influences… courtesy of Brittany.
“Murph has seen it all, the stripper pole, the nipple covers, everything!” Brittany laughs as Murph agrees. “But she’s helped me with taking my vision, refining it and bringing it to life. She’s the closer for sure, I start it, she finishes it when it comes to the design.
Their chemistry and synergy as creatives really shined through because of their loyalty to each other and long standing friendship. And now with their design featured beautifully on Beyonce, they’ve captured the world’s attention and have no intention of slowing down.
“Deviant La Vie is sexy, it’s powerful. We want women to feel confident when they’re wearing it. They already are.”
So what’s next for Deviant La Vie? “Evening wear”? I asked. “For sure, that’s where I see Deviant going. Everything.” Brittany said confidently with a glowing smile.
