I got the opportunity to chat with the Entertainment manager, producer, and Head of TV & Film for Incubations Labs Aloni Ford. To put it likely, words can’t express how impactful it was for me to connect and learn about her path to becoming an executive leader in Hollywood!
Aloni is multifaceted when it comes to storytelling. Her most recent work, WHY NOT?, the short film that showcases the culture of Crenshaw, premiered on BET Digital in February as part of the network’s Black Film Friday digital series, aims to expose youth in marginalized communities to the ever-growing technology space through the story of a top High School basketball player that finds another way to impact his community when basketball is taken away from him.
Aloni is energetic, friendly, and fierce. To summarize her personality in her words, “I was born in Pasadena, but LA raised me”. Makes sense, LA is not for the weak-minded. You have to know yourself and your purpose to make it. Aloni did that on her terms and in her own way. Her background is rooted in entrepreneurship and being a go-getter.
That drive and tenacity have taken her to great heights in her career. She worked for the Obama Administration and honed her skills working in luxury real estate in Beverly Hills eventually stepping away from the position on faith, she developed a love for filmmaking. Having a great sense of timing and some would say luck on her side, she met Nick Young on the internet during the NBA lockout and began to film him, along with JaVale McGee, for a YouTube series that went viral appearing on ESPN and Good Morning America.
The rest is history.
It’s wonderful to see women like Aloni forging their own path and creating greatness through their efforts. Aloni shared insight on how to tap in and discover what it takes to be a successful businesswoman.
“I want to encourage women that they can do whatever they want to do”. – Aloni Ford
The key tip I learned and found helpful from Aloni is not letting anyone put you in a box. She made a great point in stating that you don’t allow others to dictate your abilities and how you want to be seen in the world. Aloni is also big on discovering who you are and stated it’s okay to change and evolve.
“Don’t be afraid to try different things, switch careers, and makes changes. Sometimes the rejection you receive is your protection. When someone thinks they affected your path in some way, what they don’t realize is that they can light a fire in you to be greater.” – Aloni Ford
Aloni is an inspiration not only for who she is as a creative but for what she represents as a woman in Hollywood.
